Event Marketing Shop to Kick-off National Campaign With Star-Studded Red Carpet Private Screening at New York City’s Famous Museum of Modern Art
As with most independent films, there is little to no budget for buying national advertising to promote a film. That is why LimeGreen Productions, a Chicago-based multi-media production and event marketing company, has been chosen to lead the grassroots awareness efforts for Taproot Productions’ “Desert Bayou.”
LimeGreen is kicking off the campaign with a premier party at New York City’s famous Museum of Modern Art, followed by grassroots promotions in Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, Houston, Atlanta, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
The New York premier will include a red carpet gathering of some of the nation’s most influential community leaders, professional athletes and Hollywood-types to garner national attention for a little film with a big message. The invite-only private screening will serve as a platform to drive consumers to see Desert Bayou.
“The makers of this film came to us not because they didn’t have the big Hollywood budget but they wanted to generate a real buzz for this film at a grassroots level across the country,” said Michon Ellis, managing partner of LimeGreen. “Sparking discussion is a powerful tool for documentary films.”
Desert Bayou, directed and produced by Alex LeMay of Chicago-based Taproot Productions, will screen in 10 cities throughout the United States beginning with its debut at the East Village Theater in New York City on Oct. 5th. This controversial documentary chronicles the plight of 600 African Americans from New Orleans who were airlifted and relocated to the desert of Utah without their knowledge after their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
“Desert Bayou gives voice to those victims who suffered the aftermath of a tragedy that evolved on a daily basis,” says director Alex LeMay (THE BULLS OF SUBURBIA). “In the midst of this process, there are chronicles of plenty of good deeds, good people and community; religious and social figures whose good will eventually prevails.”
Desert Bayou Synopsis:
In the wake of one of the worst natural and humanitarian disasters ever to visit American shores, nearly 600 African Americans were airlifted to the almost entirely white state of Utah… without their knowledge. “Desert Bayou” seeks to examine whether two cultures can come together in a time of utter chaos, or whether their differences prove too great a challenge to overcome. In their own words evacuees of Hurricane Katrina, tell how they survived the storm of the century and out of the rubble ended up at a military installation in the deserts of Utah. With interviews from recording artist Master P, celebrity Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, evacuees, political and military leaders, and community and social figures, the questions of race, politics and religion hurdle towards each other in this truly American story: A story of loss and reunion, of sorrow and rebirth, of anger and rejoicing, but most of all… a story of hope.
