Gamers have spoken, and declared where the Midnight Gaming Championship tournament is headed. On Sept. 8, the MGC tournament is stopping in San Francisco and Columbus, Ohio and will conclude with Denver and Cleveland on Sept. 15. Specific locations for these tournaments will be announced shortly.
All summer, MGC producers gave gamers a voice by letting them vote online and choose where they wanted the MGC tournament to go. Now gamers in these cities have the chance to “pwn” their competition in an array of tournaments for a prize package including a round-trip ticket and one-night hotel stay in Dallas for the championships on Oct. 6.
“We wanted to give gamers a chance to bring the MGC tournament to cities that normally may not get a video game tournament,” said Jeff Gross, president of the Video Gamers League. “The race was really close at the end, with the top six cities coming down to the wire.”
The MGC tournament features five different gaming competitions including the popular Super Smash Bros. Melee from Nintendo, NBA 2K7 by 2K Sports and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) by Ubisoft for consoles, as well as the first ever 3D tournament featuring GTR2 FIA GT Racing Game published by Viva Media, brought by Headplay, and the first ever mainstream mobile tournament from I-play featuring The Fast and the Furious: Fugitive. In addition there is an All-Pro Football 2K8 side tournament and a Wii Bowling side tournament.
